Account Management

How to view your account details, check your usage, and rotate your API key -- all without contacting support.

Overview#

Coppermind gives you self-serve access to your account through the API. You can check your plan, see how many client minds you have active, review your usage over the last 30 days, and rotate your API key if you think it has been compromised.

All of these actions use your existing API key for authentication. No admin or support ticket required.

Viewing Your Account#

To see your current plan, client mind count, and active keys:

"Show me my Coppermind account details"

This returns your customer ID, email, current tier (Solo, Pro, or Agency), trial end date if applicable, how many client minds you have versus your plan limit, and metadata about your active API keys (creation date and last used date).

Key values are never shown after initial creation -- only the prefix (e.g., cm_live_abc...) so you can identify which key is which.

Checking Your Usage#

To see a summary of your activity over the last 30 days:

"How much have I used Coppermind this month?"

The usage summary includes:

  • Tool calls -- total number of MCP tool invocations
  • Memories stored -- new memories added across all client minds
  • Active client minds -- how many client minds you are currently managing

This is useful for understanding your usage patterns before deciding whether to upgrade or downgrade your plan.

Rotating Your API Key#

If you suspect your API key has been compromised, or you just want to rotate it as a security practice:

"Rotate my Coppermind API key"

When you rotate:

  1. A new key is generated and shown to you once. Copy it immediately.
  2. Your old key continues to work for a short grace period (typically 72 hours) so you have time to update your configuration.
  3. After the grace period, the old key stops working.

Important: If you rotate your key and lose the new one before updating your configuration, you will need to contact support to get a new key provisioned. There is no way to recover a key after creation.

After Rotating#

Update your key in Claude Desktop:

  1. Go to Claude Desktop Settings > Connectors > Coppermind CMO > Configure
  2. Disconnect the connector
  3. Reconnect using your new API key

Rate Limits#

Key rotation is limited to 10 requests per day to prevent abuse. Under normal circumstances you should only need to rotate once.

What Happens During Trial Expiration#

If your 30-day trial ends without upgrading to a paid plan:

  • You can still view your account details and usage
  • You cannot rotate your key (read-only mode)
  • Your data is never deleted

See the Subscription and Billing guide for details on upgrading.

What Happens If Payment Lapses#

If your payment fails, account management endpoints continue to work. You need access to your account to fix things -- Coppermind does not lock you out of account management even during a payment issue.
