How to Run Deep Research on a Client
Audience: Fractional CMOs (Agency tier and above)
Time estimate: 5 minutes (30-60 second processing time, then review)
Prerequisites: Active Coppermind client mind, Agency tier or higher
What You'll Accomplish#
Generate a comprehensive, multi-page research report on your client in a single command. Deep Research analyzes your client's brand, market position, stakeholder preferences, and campaign history to produce a document-quality insight that would take a consultant hours to assemble.
How It Works#
Deep Research reads through all your stored memories about a client—their brand positioning, past decisions, market context, team dynamics, and competitive landscape—and synthesizes it into a structured analysis covering:
- Brand identity and positioning
- Key stakeholder preferences and decision patterns
- Historical campaign performance and learnings
- Market context and competitive position
- Recommendations for next-phase strategy
The analysis produces the kind of strategic summary that justifies a consulting engagement. It's designed to be shared with clients or used as a foundation for your next strategic conversation.
Usage#
Deep Research is available as the deep_research tool when you're switched to an Agency-tier client mind.
Step-by-Step#
- Switch to the client you want to research
- Call deep_research with the client context already loaded
- Wait 30-60 seconds while Coppermind synthesizes the analysis
- Review the output — it comes back as a structured document ready to share or edit
Example#
Instead of manually assembling a strategic brief from scattered notes, you could:
"Run a deep research on Acme Corp so I have a current snapshot of their positioning and strategy."
Coppermind will pull their brand DNA, recent decisions, competitive context, and team preferences into a cohesive research document.
What You'll See#
Deep Research returns a multi-section document with:
- Executive Summary — one-paragraph overview of the client's position
- Brand Identity — positioning, differentiation, key messages
- Stakeholder Landscape — decision-makers, preferences, past commitments
- Campaign History & Learnings — what's worked, what hasn't, momentum
- Market Context — competitive position, industry shifts, opportunities
- Strategic Recommendations — next moves aligned with their DNA and goals
The document is formatted for sharing — you can send it directly to a client or use it as a briefing for your team.
Monthly Limits#
Agency tier includes 5 Deep Research reports per month. The counter resets on the first of each calendar month.
- After 5 reports, subsequent calls return a "limit reached" message with the reset date
- The limit is per client mind, not per customer account
- If you need more reports, contact support to discuss your tier
Troubleshooting#
"I got an access denied message"
You're on a Pro or Solo tier. Deep Research is an Agency-only feature. You'll see a preview of what a full report includes plus a link to upgrade to Agency.
"The analysis is too shallow"
Deep Research synthesizes from your stored memories. If critical context is missing, store it immediately after your next client conversation using store_memory. That memory becomes available for the next Deep Research run.
"I want this in a different format"
The structured output is optimized for readability and sharing. You can copy the text into a document editor to customize formatting, or share it directly — most clients appreciate the clear structure.
Next Steps#
After running Deep Research:
- Share with your client — send the analysis as a strategic summary or kickoff document
- Extract action items — if the research surfaces gaps, store them as decisions or commitments
- Build on it — use the recommendations as the foundation for your next strategy sprint
- Reference it in meetings — bring the analysis to your next client sync as a starting point for strategic conversation
Tip: Run Deep Research at the start of each quarter to give yourself a refreshed strategic snapshot before planning the next phase of work.
